Following The History Of Mixed Martial Arts
Although the sport of MMA is incredibly popular today, it had to start somewhere. Many people wonder where the sport did all get started from and how it got to be at the height of popularity of today. That is thanks to the UFC television show which really brought Mixed Martial Arts to the mainstream and got more people interested in it. The first UFC fight ever took place in the year 1993.
Even though the UFC did catch on right away as a popular contact sport, it was not until about the year 2003 when it really began to soar in popularity. Today it is the full contact sport that is growing in popularity at the fastest rate. This was a full contact sport that people were not used to seeing and they found it interesting and exciting. One of the first widely recognized names in the sport was Royce Gracie who was by far the biggest star in the sport from the start.
Well studied in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu style of fighting, Gracie was able to take down pretty much every single opponent put in front of him. Today the same is not so true and instead fighters need to be skilled in all different styles of fighting if they want to stand a chance of winning. Royce Gracie truly ruled the world of MMA in the beginning years. Gracie was the definitely the star of the UFC and the first person to showcase the MMA sport.
There were also other members of the Gracie family who were avid in the MMA style of fighting including his father and brother. Time went on and about six or seven years later there were new names stealing the spotlight including Ken Shamrock and Randy Couture. The amount of athletes involved in the sport today is incredible. People get so into the UFC fight nights and even pay hundreds of thousands of dollars just to go see a live event in Las Vegas or elsewhere.
There are always different UFC events taking place as well as other MMA events broadcast on television. More and more athletes all the time are deciding they want to get started in MMA and many have great success with it. This is how people really get their name out there and gain popularity is through the UFC fights. The sport of MMA is more infamous than ever and its reign of popularity as a sport is expected to only continue as time goes on.
